Optimum Nutrition (ON) has been around since 1986 when it was founded by brothers Tony and Michael Costello. ON is the only sports nutrition company to manufacture products in every category. The whey protein supplements that ON provides are consistently producing great reviews from consumers.
100% Whey Gold Standard
According to Bodybuilding.com, 100% Gold Standard won "Overall Supplement of the Year" and "Protein Powder of the Year" in 2009. To date, 100% Whey is available in at least 18 flavors, making it pretty easy for anybody to choose a flavor that satisfies. Depending on the flavor, each serving of 100% Gold Standard contains around 130 calories with about 15 calories from fat. This particular protein powder contains 24 grams of protein, four grams of carbohydrates, 1.5 grams of total fat and one gram of sugar. Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard is available in several sizes including one pound, two pound, five pound and 10 pound containers. They also offer a 16-count variety pack for those who are interested in testing flavors out before buying one.
Platinum Hydrowhey
As Optimum Nutrition states on its company website, Platinum Hydrowhey is "our fastest, purest, most advanced whey protein ever." This whey protein powder is packed with 30 grams of protein per serving and also contains 140 calories, one gram of total fat, two grams of carbohydrates, no lactose and zero grams of sugar. As one can see, Platinum Hydrowhey is a little bit healthier than Gold Standard although the difference is fairly marginal. Platinum Hydrowhey is currently available in three flavors including Supercharged Strawberry, Turbo Charged Chocolate and Velocity Vanilla. Hydrowhey is currently available in just two sizes, 1.75 pounds and 3.5 pounds.
Choosing the Right Protein Supplement
The more affordable, convenient choice to most would be 100% Gold Standard whey protein because of both cost and flavor selection. It has adequate amounts of whey protein that will be beneficial to the muscles, especially post workout. Choosing between these two whey protein supplements is kind of like deciding whether to go luxury or not. Platinum Hydrowhey is kind of the Rolls Royce as far as protein supplements go. It's a bit more expensive because it's a more pure protein blend. Those who have problems digesting lactose will be benefited by Platinum Hydrowhey because it contains absolutely no lactose, making it easy to digest.
Optimum Nutrition offers other specialized proteins as well, including soy, casein and egg. Whey protein supplements are designed to supplement an otherwise balanced diet and dosing instructions should be carefully followed for best results.
