Though the Wall Street stocks plummeted during 2008, there were still 355,671 breast augmentation procedures performed during that year, which is down only 11 percent from 2007. Breast augmentation surgery has steadily increased since 1992.
Contacting Surgeons
Begin looking for potential plastic surgeons by first asking friends or family members who have had breast augmentations if they can recommend a surgeon. If not, then proceed by obtaining a list of local plastic surgeons through an organization like the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) or American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
Once a list of surgeons has been obtained, begin contacting them by phone or e-mail and asking about price quotes. A higher price doesn’t always mean better quality. It is okay to “shop around” for a plastic surgeon. On the other hand, it’s important to not go with a surgeon and get a breast augmentation surgery just because it’s cheap.
Set up as Many Consultations as Needed
Most offices will set up a free consultation to meet with a surgeon. Some places will require a fee for the initial consultation but will apply that fee towards the breast augmentation price if you decide to go with them. A consultation is a great way to get a feel for the doctor and to see whether one is comfortable moving forward or whether to schedule more consultations with other surgeons.
Silicone vs. Saline
Saline is the most affordable breast augmentation filler type as it is cheaper than silicone gel implants. One can save $500 to $1000 or more depending on the surgeon, just by going with saline breast implants. While silicone is said to feel more like a natural breast, many women have been happy with how their saline implants look and feel.
The only way to choose what works best for one individual is to actually feel each type of implant to see which feels better and a good surgeon will allow a feel test. It really all comes down to personal preference and how one would like the breasts to feel. Choosing to get implants filled with saline is the easiest way to get cheap breast implants because they always cost less than implants filled with silicone gel.
Pay in Cash to Get Cheap Breast Implants
Another great way to get an affordable breast augmentation surgery is by paying for it in cold hard cash. While there are financing programs available, paying in cash may prove to be more beneficial because the surgeon may offer a discount off the regular price. It never hurts to ask, especially when one is able to pay for the entire procedure up front with cash.
If a breast augmentation is financed, either through a credit line or even by using a credit card, interest will be tacked on to the total cost in most cases. If one wants to save the most amount of money possible, then it’d be best to save up the money rather than go into debt by getting financing.
